A Baldwin man was arrested by St. Mary Parish Sheriff's deputies early Sunday morning on a host of charges including misuse of the 911 system.

A deputy was called out to Highway 83 in the Ashton area to investigate a complaint of a suspicious person.

The responding deputy saw 33-year-old Jonathan Sanders standing in the roadway.  The deputy says as he keep approaching the suspect with his patrol car, it's alleged that Sanders stepped in front of the car.

While investigating, the deputy learned that Sanders allegedly also stepped out in front of the complainant's car.

The officer started to interview Sanders, and he says he smelled the odor of alcohol on his breath.  The deputy took Sanders to Franklin Foundation Hospital for treatment.

The deputy says while they were there, Sanders repeatedly threatened the deputy, and he yelled profanities at hospital staff.

While he was being treated at the hospital, the deputy says Sanders called 911 twice.

Sanders if facing the following charges:

  • Disturbing the peace
  • Obstructing a public passage
  • Two counts of resisting an officer
  • Threatening a public official
  • Misuse of 911
