An electrical fire is suspected of leading to two horses dying during a barn fire Thursday night.

Lafayette firefighters say the barn itself, located at the 2200 block of Carmel Drive, sustained heavy fire damage. Fire officials say they responded to the barn earlier in the day after workers at a neighboring barn noticed smoke and called them. After the fire was quickly contained, firefighters say they told the owners to turn off the electrical power to the barn until it was inspected by an electrician. Firefighters say the building was still energized when they arrived later that evening.

No other injuries were reported.
