The Friday night crash on I-10 that caused the Basin Bridge to be closed for a period of time has resulted in one death and one arrest.

With seven people riding in a Dodge Durango that crashed into the guard rail and flipped over the bridge railing six people were rescued from the water and 25 year old Mina Bell of St. Petersburg, Florida was pronounced dead at the scene. Five children in the vehicle ranged in age from 5 weeks old to 9 years old. Four of the children had moderate injuries while a 7 year old suffered severe injuries.

The driver of the Durango, 24 year old Lois Rudd of Largo, Florida will be charged with five counts of negligent injury, negligent homicide and careless operation when she is released from the hospital.

It is unknown if any of the passengers were restrained. Louisiana State Police is continuing the investigation.
