The bill that would ban so called "bath salts" and other synthetic forms of drugs is headed to the governor's desk for his signature. The bill by Gretna Rep. Ricky Templet says these hallucinogenic products would be made illegal on July 15th. Usually new laws go into effect August 15th but Templet says this law would go into effect July 15th. He says the bill would ban synthetic marijuana and synthetic cocaine. Templet says last year a bill was passed to ban fake marijuana but the formula was tweaked and the product was back on the market less than three months later. Templet says the penalty for possessing or distributing such products will be similar to those of possessing or distributing marijuana or cocaine. He says parents need to be aware that these products are out there.
