Two Baton Rouge men are in police custody after burglarizing a gas station in Breaux Bridge Friday night.

St. Martin Parish Sheriff's spokesperson Maj. Ginny Higgins reported deputies received a 911 call about the burglary, which was soon followed by a hit-and-run call, from the same Exxon gas station in the 2900 block of Grand Pointe Hwy.

Once deputies arrived on scene, they learned a suspect, identified as 30-year-old Ricky Cook, had entered a bathroom at the rear of the store, climbed through the ceiling into a crawl space and entered a locked office. As Cook was attempting to exit through the restroom, he fell through the ceiling and landed in the middle of the store. He then fled on foot to a getaway vehicle driven by 33-year-old Demanuel Royal, who hit a store clerk and a vehicle before leaving the store's parking lot.

Iberville Parish Sheriff's Deputies apprehended the suspects in Rosedale before having them transported to the St. Martin Parish Correctional Center and booked on the following charges:

  • Demanuel Royal -- Hit And Run
  • Ricky Cook -- Simple Burglary
