BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — The Baton Rouge Planning Commission has approved a zoning change that clears the way for the city's first Rouses Market.

The Thibodaux chain will build a 55,545-square-foot store on Airline Highway.

No opening date for the store has been announced.

Rouses has been building stores in its new upscale format in cities throughout the Louisiana and Mississippi Gulf Coast in recent years.

Rouses has said the independent grocer wants three stores in the Baton Rouge area.

Rouses has nearly 40 stores in Louisiana and Mississippi, including 10 in metro New Orleans and two in the Lafayette area.
