Baton Rouge Man Fatally Shot in Lafayette

The victim of Saturday night’s shooting in Lafayette died according to the Lafayette Police Department.  Corporal Paul Mouton says that 20-year-old John J. Dean of Baton Rouge was shot Saturday night in the chest, and he has now died from those injuries.  Lafayette detectives have how now upgraded the charge against their suspect 32-year-old Carl J. Phillips to 2nd Degree Murder.

Police say on Saturday, July 28, 2012, at around 6:30 in the morning, Lafayette Police went to a home in the 600 block of Goldman Street about a shooting.  When officers got to the scene they say they found Dean lying in the yard with a single gunshot to the chest. Police say witnesses have said the victim was at the door of the home when an argument started between himself and the suspect.  Police say that during the argument the suspect produced a handgun and allegedly shot the victim.  The suspect then fled the scene.

Anyone with information as to the whereabouts of Phillips is encouraged to call the Lafayette Police Department or Crime Stoppers at 232-TIPS.
