Fake checks are being used by scammers according to the Acadiana Better Business Bureau. The check scams can include fake online job ads and online sales of higher priced items including cars. Once counterfeit checks are received by a consumer they might be asked to deposit the check and return a portion to the scammer before the check clears the bank. Many times the checks bear the name of national banks such as Chase or Wells Fargo.

The BBB warns if you get an unexpected check in the mail it just might be too good to be true and if someone asks you to send money after you receive such a check that should be a red flag.
