Be Warm, Be Safe

Watch those space heaters. State Fire Marshal Butch Browning tells us to use caution when using portable space heaters. About half of the house fires in Louisiana during cold weather are caused by them according to Browning.

Browning gave us a few simple tips to be safe this cold season

• Keep a three foot area around the heater clear.
• Make sure to have a working smoke detector in the house at all times.
• Keep all flammables away from the heater at all times.
• Never leave the heater unattended.
