As expected, John White has been named the next state superintendent of education. Louisiana's Board of Elementary and Secondary Education met earlier today and approved Governor Jindal's choice for the job. White has been the superintendent of the Recovery School District since May of 2010. Jindal has been pushing for White to take over the job for months but had to wait until last fall's election to gain enough votes on the board. White takes over from Ollie Tyler who has been serving as acting Superintendent since Paul Pastorek left the post last year.
