HOUMA, La. (AP) — Cajun food and live music take over downtown Houma this weekend with the first Best of the Bayou Festival.

The Courier reports that the festival will include about 25 bands on Saturday and Sunday. The bands hail from across the southern region and include national favorites such as Cowboy Mouth, the Givers and Marc Broussard.

The event is being paid for with money the state and Terrebonne Parish got from oil giant BP as compensation for damage caused by the Deepwater Horizon drilling rig explosion off the state's coast in April 2010, which killed 11 rig workers and led to the nation's worst offshore oil spill.
