All summer long, we’re going to list the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #40.

Today, #41:

The pick: Roman Harper

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #41, the choice is limited to receivers John Gilliam and Bob Newland, running backs Erik Long and Jimmy Rogers, and defensive backs Toi Cook, William Strong (CB), Tim Carter, and Roman Harper.

The pick here is going to be Harper, a defensive back who played eight years for the Saints, from 2006-2013.

After concluding his college career at Alabama, Harper was selected by the Saints in the second round of the 2006 NFL Draft..

A starting safety for seven of his eight seasons with the franchise, Harper 529 tackles, along with 17 sacks and 7 interceptions.

Harper, a 6-foot, 195-pounder, earned Pro Bowl honors in 2009 and 2010.

After Harper left the Saints following the 2013 season, he signed with the Carolina Panthers.

A native of Prattville, Alabama, Harper has accumulated 570 tackles, 18 sacks, and 11 interceptions during his nine NFL seasons.
