All summer long, we’re going to list the best players in New Orleans Saints history to wear every number, 00-99.

Yesterday, we did #49.

Today, #50:

The pick: Curtis Lofton

When deciding who is the best New Orleans Saints player to ever wear #50, the choice is limited to offensive linemen Jake Kupp and Philip James, and linebackers Ken Bordelon, Jack Del Rio, John Johnson, Ink Aleaga, Kevin Mitchell, Corey Terry, Phil Clarke, James Allen, Curtis Lofton, and Marvin Mitchell.

The choice has to be narrowed down to Bordelon, Del Rio, Lofton, and Kevin Mitchell, with the pick being the only player who was a full-time starter for three years.

Our selection is going to be Lofton, a middle linebacker who played three years for the Saints, from 2012-2014.

After playing his college football at Oklahoma, Lofton was selected by the Atlanta Falcons in the second round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

A native of Kingfisher, Oklahoma, Lofton was a four-year starter for the Falcons, compiling 351 tackles and three interceptions.

Lofton signed as a free agent with the Saints prior to the 2012 season, and became a three-year starter, accumulating 271 tackles and three fumble recoveries.

After being released by the Saints following the 2014 campaign, Lofton signed with the Oakland Raiders.

In seven NFL seasons, Lofton has totaled 622 tackles, three interceptions, and four fumble recoveries.
