BAYOU BOEUF, La. (AP) — Some property owners in Bayou Boeuf may be seeing a drop in their property insurance costs.

The Courier reports that the Bayou Boeuf Volunteer Fire Department's rating has improved.

The department got a 10, the lowest rating possible after an audit in 2008, but the most recent review brought the rating back to a 7.

The rating, based on factors such as manpower, response times and training, is issued by Property Insurers Association of Louisiana. It affects the amount of money property owners pay for insurance.

Fire Chief Claude Stein said the property insurance on his Bayou Boeuf house dropped by $2,200 dollars because of the change, which went into effect in April.
