Legislation that would tie public funding to student performance and issue a letter grade to all Louisiana's public schools along with early childhood education programs are swiftly moving through the legislative process.

Two Senate bills that are the foundation of Governor Bobby Jindal's path to try to restructure early childhood education and kindergarten readiness are moving through the Legislature.

Both of the bills have cleared the Louisiana Senate with minimal discussion, and they are not expected to run into the trouble in the Louisiana House.

Both public and private programs for Louisiana's youngest citizens get about $1.4 billion each year between the state and federal government.
