“No one who fights for this country overseas should ever have to fight for a job,” Barack Obama said last Veterans’ Day, “or a roof over their head, or the care that they have earned when they come home.”  I remember when President Obama made that statement and I thought at the time "yeah, right".  Now the reality sets in.  An interview in Esquire magazine published today relates how things really happen.  The interview by Phil Bronstein details how one of the shooters of Osama Bin Laden is living since the mission.  In the background as I write this I hear the words from the military's television and radio ads, urging young men and women to enlist to learn a real-life skill that can benefit them as civilians.  I don't think the now-retired Navy SEAL can list his 16 years as a US killing machine as a job skill on any resume.  Obviously the only profession that might want him would be one where covert skills are necessary.  This shooter retired from the military due to concerns about the safety of his family and now he's out of a job and also out of health insurance.  That's right, no insurance because he didn't put in 20 years.  You can't get veteran's benefits unless you do at least 20.  Aside from all the injuries he's suffered over the years he opted to leave the military to protect his family.  As soon as it was disclosed that Navy SEAL Team 6 had killed Osama Bin Laden news crews descended on their Virginia Beach, Virginia neighborhood, video recording their homes and all their activities.  The shooter's family has been trained by him to prepare for retaliation with various weapons scattered throughout their home, the children have been taught to huddle in the bathtub until the "all clear" is given and they even have a "bolt bag" of necessities placed near the back door in case they have to run for safety.  What has the government done for this American hero?  From his $60,000 a year salary with benefits he has no health insurance for his family and they've offered him a witness protection type existence driving a beer truck!

I'm glad to hear the President said No one who fights for this country overseas should ever have to fight for a job, or a roof over their head, or the care that they have earned when they come home.”  I would hate to see if President Obama had not promised these true American heroes they would be cared for.  Just think if he had promised to discard them like yesterday's newspaper.
