Diocese of Lafayette Bishop Michael Jarrell joined ‘Mornings With Ken & Bernie‘ today to discuss the recent Supreme Court’s decision regarding the Obama Administration’s healthcare plan.  In January of this year parishioners were read a letter written by Church leadership railing against the Obama Healthcare plan that requires employers to provide health insurance plans that include contraceptive coverage.  We asked if the Church view had changed.

Bishop Jarrell said,

“Our position has not changed.  The Church did not have an issue with the constitutionality of the plan, we did not weigh on that at all.  Our objection now and as it has been for two years concerns mainly the idea that some of our institutions like hospitals and colleges will be required to purchase insurance for their employees that would fund sterilization procedures and some drugs that cause abortion…and the abortion mandate.”

Bishop Jarrell went on to say that in the past the government has made accommodations in the name of religious liberty but it looks like that is changing.
