State and federal agents are on the hunt for the person who killed a Louisiana black bear.  The bear was found shot dead on a trail in Avoyelles Parish.

The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service says it was a two-year-old male black bear.

Agents want to remind Louisiana citizens that black bears are considered an endangered species, and they have been protected under both federal and state law since 1992.

The person caught could get up to six months in jail, be fined up to 50-thousand dollars and be made to pay 10-thousand dollars in restitution.
