Blue-fin tuna caught off the California coast have been found to be contaminated with radiation from the Fukushima nuclear disaster.  Today on 'Mornings With Ken & Bernie' National Medical Review Officer for US Healthworks Dr. Donald Bucklin assured us that the tuna was safe to consume.

According to Bucklin tiny amounts of caesium-137 and caesium-134 were detected in 15 blue-fin tuna caught near San Diego.  The levels were 10 times higher than those found in tuna in the same area in previous years, but still well below those that the Japanese and US governments consider a risk to health.

Bucklin said, "I think probably the chances of dying from eating this tuna is less than being struck by lightning or getting rabies from a sea otter, which has never happened."

Dr. Bucklin went on to say that eating a slice of pizza was probably more dangerous to your health than eating radiation contaminated tuna.  The cholesterol in pizza is worse for your health than the caesium and in addition the blue-fin tuna contains Omega-3 fats which have numerous health benefits.
