BILOXI, Miss. (AP) — An on-the-water party that draws hundreds of boaters, from kayakers to those on jet skis, is taking place for the first time since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.

The Boaters Rendezvous is scheduled this Sunday after a long hiatus due to Katrina and the Gulf oil spill.

The Sun Herald reports (http://bit.ly/N7J96v ) that the event will be just off the coast so more people can join the party. Previous events were held at Ship Island, 12 miles offshore, which meant those who didn't have a boat or a ride didn't get to attend. This year the party has been moved to Deer Island off Biloxi's coast.

"We're going to have a lot of people," said Rusty David, one of the organizers who started Boaters Rendezvous in the early 1990s.
