LAFAYETTE, La. (AP) — Authorities battling a fire at a Lafayette business found a body inside a vehicle at the site.

Alton Trahan of the Lafayette Fire Department says firefighters from Judice, Scott and Lafayette responded to a commercial fire at Advanced Radiographics about 5 a.m. Friday. When emergency crews arrived, heavy smoke was coming from the building.

The Advertiser reports firefighters from Broussard, Carencro, and Youngsville responded to a request for additional help when the fire spread to an adjacent business, Murf's Cabinets.

About 45 minutes into fighting the fire, Trahan says, a vehicle was discovered in the building and responders confirmed one fatality inside the vehicle. He says the vehicle may have been driven into the building, and the collision may have ignited paper products stored there.

The investigation is ongoing.
