Governor Bobby Jindal says the additional rain in the Lower Ohio River Valley has emergency officials in Louisiana preparing for even higher Mississippi River water levels than previously estimated.The Army of Corps of Engineers will consider opening the Morganza floodway near Morgan City for the first time in decades.

Jindal said Tuesday the Corps is also likely to open the Bonnet Carre floodway near New Orleans.

The state has decided to carry out the first two phases of its three-part plan to evacuate Louisiana State Penitentiary at Angola, starting with the most medically vulnerable inmates on May 9.

Jindal says that some areas in the state will have record river crests, starting when slow-moving waters hit the northern part of the state in roughly two weeks
