Washington, D.C. – U.S. Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr. MD (R-Southwest Louisiana) today applauded the House Budget Committee’s Fiscal Year (FY) 2012 Budget, “The Path to Prosperity-Restoring America’s Promise.”

“The budget also recommends reforms to our tax code, which I have called for repeatedly as a member of the House Ways and Means Committee. By improving the tax code, we can encourage business growth at home and increase American competitiveness abroad.

“I look forward to working closely with members to see its passage. These are the cuts we promised. This is the outline we need to bring prosperity and growth back to this nation. I commend Rep. Paul Ryan’s leadership, and I hope to see this move quickly,” Boustany said. “Democrats must heed the call of the American people to enact this responsible, fact-based budget. Only then can we finally get our fiscal house back in order.”

“This budget is a huge step in the right direction for our economy,” Boustany said. “The bottom line is this plan will finally pay down our massive, strangling debt by tackling some of the biggest drivers of our spending and restore jobs to our country. While making much needed cuts, the budget preserves and strengthens Medicare, which is so important to our seniors. It lowers unemployment and helps business to hire workers once again. Our debt, which stands at over $14 trillion, or more than $45,000 for every man, woman and child in this country, has become a threat to our national and economic security. This budget is what this country needs to get our economy back on track.
