A fundraising report released by Congressman Charles Boustany shows the Lafayette Republican raised nearly a half-million dollars during the second quarter and has over one million dollars on hand. UL Lafayette Political Science Professor Pearson Cross says Boustany is gearing up for a potential race against fellow Republican Jeff Landry.

New Congressional district lines have merged Boustany's district with the one currently occupied by New Iberia Republican Jeff Landry. Its expected Landry and Boustany will face each other in a Republican primary next year. Cross says Boustany goes into the race as the favorite, but Landry does have the support of the Tea Party.

Landry has yet to update his campaign finance totals. At the end of the first quarter of this year, Landry had just under $80,000 on hand. Cross says both candidates will be busy raising money over the next year.
