It has been discussed for years now, but now Congressman Charles Boustany says his office has received confirmation from the Department of Veterans' Affairs Congressional Legislative Affairs office that an actual timeline has been set for the awarding of leases for VA clinics in Lafayette and Lake Charles.

VA Congressional Relations Officer Michael Huff's email to Boustany stated,

"VA is committed to awarding the Lake Charles and Lafayette leases within six months of authorization, which would be February 2015. VA anticipates completion of construction of Lake Charles in Summer 2015, or 6 months after lease award, and completion of construction in Lafayette in Winter 2015/2016, or 12 months after lease award."

The legislation authorizing the two clinics was finally passed through Congress and signed by the president this year.

Congressman Boustany says,

“Finally South Louisiana veterans have a deadline they can look forward to on the construction of these important clinics. This is another step forward in the march toward the completion of these facilities that will provide the standard of care our veterans deserve. I will hold the VA fully accountable to their deadline, because our veterans have waited long enough for the completion of this process. It’s time to put shovel to dirt and finally get this done.”
