Washington, DC –

U.S. Congressman Charles W. Boustany, Jr., MD (R-Southwest Louisiana) today voted for Rep. Paul Ryan’s budget which he believes would restore the country on a path of economic prosperity.

“The Ryan budget offers a clear vision of America’s economic future, while the President offers empty promises, outdated ideas and hyper-partisan rhetoric,” Boustany said. “The vote today demonstrates Republicans are committed to eliminating our dangerous debt and bringing economic prosperity back to our great nation. We cannot continue down the unsustainable path this Administration is leading us. We must make these spending cuts, and more needs to be done to reign in the excesses of former Speaker Pelosi and the Obama Administration’s out of control spending. I look forward to working with my colleagues as we make these decisions.  America has spoken and Congress is acting to put an end to the debt threatening our economic and national security.”

Highlights of the Ryan budget include:

  • Cuts of $6.2 trillion in government spending over the next decade.
  • Elimination of hundreds of duplicative government programs.
  • Reduction of government spending to below 20% of the economy.
  • Repeal and defunding of ObamaCare.
  • Calls for a simpler, less burdensome tax code.
  • Promoting a business environment for companies to grow and succeed.

As a member of the House Ways and Means committee, Rep. Boustany plans to play a large role in reforming America’s tax policy to restore competitiveness and allow businesses to grow and prosper again. “This budget means real solutions for the people of Louisiana, and I am pleased the Ryan budget passed to put this nation back on the road of fiscal responsibility,” Boustany said.
