On NewsTalk 96.5 KPEL's 'Brand Buzz' this week Jaci Russo discussed what some non-profit organizations are doing correctly while others fail. There is one major point that some non-profits fail to understand. According to Jaci,

So many of them don't think of themselves as businesses and don't want to spend any time or money or energy on their image and their branding because they're afraid it will send a bad message to their donors that they are wasting money on marketing.

In addition to failing to understand their role as a business Jaci said,

What I see from a lot of these NPO's (Non-Profit Organizations) is that take all of this free help...from sometimes untrained, unlicensed people who maybe just started to learn some graphic design or photography or videography and that free help becomes more expensive than finding a very inexpensive solution because of the damage it may do.

Another problem some NPO's face according to Jaci,

A lot times non-profits don't do a very good job of explaining who they serve and what they're about. So, to the consumer, which is the potential donor or volunteer, recipient they all look and sound alike.
