22 year old Donald Clement Jr. of Breaux Bridge has been arrested for Attempted Manslaughter and Resisting a Police Officer with Force or Violence.  Tuesday morning shortly after midnight a St. Martin Parish Sheriff's deputy saw Clement engaged in what he believed to be illegal narcotic activities.  The Deputy approached Clement’s vehicle, and identified himself as a Sheriff’s Deputy.  Clement accelerated and drove through the parking lot with the Deputy hanging onto the driver’s side door.  Clement drove approximately 500 feet with the Deputy hanging onto his car before he crashed into a fence and fled the scene on foot.  The Deputy became separated from the vehicle just prior to the crash and sustained severe injuries and was taken to a local hospital.

Shortly after fleeing the scene, Clement was located and taken into custody.  He was transported to the St. Martin Parish Jail and booked by the Breaux Bridge Police Department on DWI and several traffic violations.  Clement was also booked on arrest warrants obtained by State Police Detectives for Attempted Manslaughter and Resisting a Police Officer with Force or Violence. The investigation remains ongoing and additional charges are possible.
