Bridge Set For Replacement In Jefferson Parish

METAIRIE, La. (AP) — The Army Corps of Engineers has awarded an $8.1 million contract to replace the westbound bridge on West Metairie Avenue at the Soniat Canal on the east bank of Jefferson Parish.

The contract was awarded to Shavers-Whittle Construction LLC of Mandeville. The work is expected to be completed in August 2015.

The project is part of the Southeast Louisiana Urban Flood Control Project, which is designed to reduce the risk of flood damage from rainfall in Jefferson and St. Tammany parishes and New Orleans.
