BROUSSARD, La. (AP) — Broussard has adopted its first noise ordinance.

The Advertiser reports the ordinance, modeled on one already in place in Lafayette, was formally adopted Tuesday night and will go into effect in 30 days.

Police Chief Brannon Decou says his officers will now receive training on the proper way to monitor and enforce the ordinance from Tim Melancon, who handles these issues for the parish.

Decou says he doesn't get a lot of complaints about noise, but his officers now have a law they can enforce.
