As part of a statewide initiative, Lafayette Police are conducting a seatbelt campaign called “Buckle Up in Your Truck” from now through Thursday, April 28th.

“Special emphasis will be placed on occupants of pickup trucks during this campaign, however, all drivers are reminded to utilize their seatbelts for safety,” says LPD spokesman Corporal Paul Mouton.

Local police departments across Louisiana are working in conjunction with the Louisiana Highway Safety Commission to reduce fatalities in crashes. Executive Director of the commission John Leblanc says 25% of the registered vehicles in Louisiana are pickup trucks. He says 8 people have been killed in pickup truck crashes in the state since March.
