Bunkie Man Arrested For Theft, Endangering Child Following Crash
A Bunkie man is accused of stealing two generators and a pressure washer--and he apparently brought a 5-year-old child with him for the ride.
According to Louisiana State Police Trpr. Stephen Hammons, police investigating a crash on Hwy. 175 discovered that the Dodge Ram in question matched the description of the one used in the theft.
The driver, 32-year-old Jace Deshotels, drove off the road and into a ditch while trying to flee the scene, Hammons said.
The stolen items were recovered near Deshotels' truck, Hammons said.
Though he was not injured, Hammons said the 5-year-old who was with him received minor injuries.
Deshotels has been arrested and booked into the St. Landry Parish Jail on charges of careless operation of a motor vehicle, theft over $1,000, criminal trespass, and child endangerment. He also had a active warrant from Lafayette parish for theft over $5,000.
