Erick Knezek said the Lafayette Parish School Board has become distracted from the central focus of educating the district's children because of "personal politics" and personal disputes.

Knezek announced last week that he will challenge school board member Hunter Beasely for the seat in district six because "somebody's got to do it."

"There's an obvious problem right now with the leadership at the school board, the dysfunction amongst its members, the lack of ability to get things done effectively--and somebody's got to do it," Knezek said.

Knezek said he has the motivation and the leadership--skills obtained while serving in the United States Navy and through the foundation of his business--to work with school system Superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper to better the school district.
