Caddo Official Wants State To Return Lockup Site

SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A Caddo Parish commissioner wants the state to give back a correctional center that was donated by the parish in 1977.

The state closed the prison in Keithville this past July, transferring some prisoners to Bossier Parish and others to a correctional center in Homer.

A clause in the 1977 contract says the property would revert to the parish should the state not use it for two years.

The Times in Shreveport reports that Caddo commissioner Ken Epperson plans to ask the commission to petition the state for the return of the 100-acre facility now, instead of two years from now.

Epperson said he would like to see the facility transformed into a zoo or other economic asset.
