SHREVEPORT, La. (AP) — A Caddo Parish jury has convicted a man in the first-degree murder of a Shreveport police officer two years ago.

Tuesday's verdict means Christopher Cope could be sentenced to death. The penalty phase of the trial was set to begin Wednesday.

Cope was found guilty of shooting Sgt. Timothy Prunty while the officer visited with a clerk outside of a convenience store in southwest Shreveport early on the morning of Oct. 24, 2010.

The jury that convicted Cope will decide whether he should be sentenced to death or life in prison.
