After three days, a champion has yet to be decided in the Baton Rouge NCAA Regional.

The 14th-ranked Louisiana Ragin' Cajun softball team fell to the top-seeded LSU Tigers, 6-1, on Sunday at Tiger Park in Baton Rouge, La, forcing an if necessary game between the two on Monday.

The Cajuns beat LSU, 4-2, on Saturday, to advance to the regional championship round for the 10th-consecutive year, after downing the McNeese St. Cowgirls, 6-0, on Friday.

LSU defeated McNeese St., 10-1, to advance to play the Cajuns in the championship round.

The loss put an end to the Cajuns’ win streak of 15 games, while halting their win streak at Tiger Park at 8 games.

The defeat dropped Louisiana’s all-time record in the NCAA Tournament to 73-56, while ending their win streak against LSU at 7-straight.

The Cajuns, who are participating in the NCAA Tournament for the 19th-consecutive year, have been in an NCAA Regional in 27 of the last 28 years.

LSU got on the scoreboard first, plating a run in the top half of the second inning, when Amber Serrett laid down a perfect squeeze bunt, scoring Shemiah Sanchez, to give them a 1-0 lead.

The Tigers added two more runs in the top half of the third inning, when Sahvanna Jaquish belted a 2-run home run, her 9th of the season, to widen their lead to 3-0.

LSU tacked on yet another run in the top half of the 4th inning, when Serrett singled home a run, her second RBI of the game, to give them a 4-0 advantage.

The Tigers put up two insurance runs in the top half of the 6th inning, the first on a solo homer by Serrett, her 4th of the season, to go along with her third RBI of the game, as well as an RBI single by Emily Griggs, to make it 6-0.

Louisiana scored their only run of the game in the bottom half of the 7th inning, courtesy of a Kelli Martinez infield single, to trim the deficit to 6-1.

That was all that UL could muster however, as LSU went on to the 6-1 triumph.

Louisiana, who was outhit by LSU, 10-5, was led at the plate by Kara Gremillion, who collected two hits.

LSU was paced, offensively, by Griggs, who went 4-for-4, and Serrett, who went 2-for-2, including a homer and 3 runs batted in.

Carley Hoover (13-6) recorded the win in the circle for the Tigers, allowing only one unearned run, while scattering 5 hits.

Alex Stewart (27-4) suffered the loss for the Cajuns, snapping her 20-game win streak, as she allowed 3 runs on 3 hits.

With the victory, LSU improved to 44-19, overall, while Louisiana dropped to 47-7.

The two teams will collide for the regional championship on Monday, in an if necessary game, beginning at 1:04 pm.
