Cajuns Lose Heartbreaker To Owls, 5-4

Louisiana's Ragin' Cajun baseball team fell at home in Sun Belt Conference action on Saturday night, dropping a 5-4 heart breaker to the FAU Owls, at M.L. "Tigue" Moore Field.

For the second-consecutive night, Louisiana scored in the first inning, as outfielder Dex Kjerstad doubled, advanced to third on a bunt single by second baseman Jace Conrad, and then scored on a single off the bat of outfielder Ryan Leonards. Conrad, who raced to third on the Leonards single, later scored on a ground out off the bat of third baseman Tyler Girouard, making the score 2-0.

FAU scored their first run of the game in the top half of the third inning, when outfielder Corey Keller singled, and later scored on a ground ball off the bat of outfielder Nathan Pittman, to cut the UL lead to 2-1.

The Cajuns cam right back, with a run of their own in the bottom half of the fourth inning, when outfielder Seth Harrison belted a solo home run, his second of the series, making the score 3-1.

The Owls scored an unearned run in the top of the sixth inning, to trim the lead to 3-2, before Keller blasted a solo home home in the top half of the seventh inning, to knot the game up at 3-3.

Louisiana regained the lead in the bottom half of the eight inning, when Leonards delivered a clutch two-out single to left, scoring Kjerstad, to make the score 4-3, UL.

With one out and nobody on in the top half of the ninth inning, FAU rallied, as Brendon Sanger singled off Cajun closer Matt Hicks, before third baseman Ricky Santiago nailed a two-run homer, over the right-field wall, giving the Owls a 5-4 lead, and the eventual one-run win.

Bo Logan (4-0) picked-up the win for FAU, with Hugh Adams recording his twelfth save of the year, while Hicks (3-1) suffered the loss for Louisiana.

With the win, the Owls improved to26-13 , overall, and 11-6 in Sun Belt Conference play, while the Cajuns fell to 26-13, overall, and 9-8 in league play.
