LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — Calcasieu Parish officials are warning political candidates to keep campaign signs away from rights of way on private property.

Police jurors tell The American Press (http://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) they have received complaints about signs being placed illegally.

Parish planning and zoning director Wes Crain says large signs could distract drivers, especially near intersections.

Crain says a parish ordinance bars signs from being placed along rights of way. He says officials will contact representatives of candidates to request removal of the signs.

He says that if the signs are not removed by the campaigns, parish workers will pick them up and place them in storage. Campaign workers can pick them up if they wish.
