GRAYSON, La. (AP) — Grayson police have arrested a man after he allegedly set a house on fire.

Chief Mitch Bratton tells The News-Start police and firefighters were called to a structure fire on La. Highway 126 East around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Bratton said investigators believed the fire's cause was suspicious and contacted state fire marshal officials.

After a joint investigation between Grayson fire and police and the state fire marshal, authorities arrested John B. Cruse of Grayson.

Bratton said Cruse admitted setting the fire, as well as fighting with his girlfriend as the house burned. He was booked into Caldwell Parish Jail charged with aggravated arson and domestic abuse battery.

No bond has been set.

It was unclear whether Cruse has an attorney.
