UPDATE – Opelousas Police Say Suspect In I-49 Car Chase Is Major Drug Dealer
Update: 27-year-old Chad "Nash" Thomas of Opelousas, the driver, will be charged with Aggravated Flight From An Officer along with numerous traffic offenses after leading police on a car chase, according to OPD Chief Perry Gallow. Chief Gallow says "Thomas is known by OPD as a major drug dealer known to carry weapons."
After Thomas rammed a police vehicle and fled, this is the chase Chief Gallow says Thomas led police on:
"The pursuit went through the city of Opelousas to I-49 South. Police units with Sunset, Grand Coteau, Carencro, LSP, Lafayette S/O pursued the vehicle in an attempt to stop him. Thomas traveled well over 100 mph South on I-49 then North on i-49 to Sunset, then back to I-49 South towards Lafayette. About 20 police officers surrounded Thomas's vehicle on the I-49 Ser. Rd just north of Exit 4 in Carencro."

Two people have been arrested after leading police on a car chase down I-49 Tuesday evening.
According to our news partners at KATC, Opelousas police tried to stop the male driver as part of a drug investigation, but Police Chief Perry Gallow says the man, who had a female passenger, sped down the interstate several times between Opelousas and Carencro.
Several agencies were involved in the chase, which ended on the service road in Carencro.
