Tenth-grade students from throughout Lafayette, St. Martin, Vermilion, and Iberia parishes will get the chance to learn about the different careers available to them at a career fair in January.

Debbie Burkheiser with Job Connections said businesses from throughout Acadiana will be manning booths at the career fair with specialists from their different career paths to give students an idea of what it takes to perform these jobs.

Burkheiser said this allows students to get a better understanding of their potential future career track and to flesh out what path they want to follow.

"We've affected over 60,000 students in this area" over the course of 16 years, Burkheiser said.

Sponsors are still needed for the event, Burkheiser said, and more businesses are urged to participate as well.

"The worst thing that can happen is to have  a student say, 'I want to be a vet. Is there a veterinarian here?'" Burkheiser said. "And we have to say no."

Booth sponsorships are still available. If you're interested in participated, go to LEDA's website.
