CARENCRO, La. (KPEL) -- A home was heavily damaged and two pets were killed in a Wednesday morning fire in Carencro.

According to Lafayette fire investigator Alton Trahan, firefighters from Lafayette, Carencro, and Scott responded to the La Rue Christ Roi home at 11:13 a.m.

When fire crews arrived, "heavy smoke and flames were coming from the roof of the singe family dwelling," Trahan said.

The owner of the home, 35-year-old Bryan Grossie, said he had just woken up when he noticed smoke coming from the living room.

Grossie tried "to put the fire out but couldn't," Trahan said.

The fire remains under investigation.
