A Carencro man has been arrested on a slew of charges after he allegedly tried to run away from police.

Captain Megan Vizena with the St. Landry Parish Sheriff's Office says deputies approached 24-year-old Paulos Jerome Breaux after getting a suspicious person complaint. As they were doing so, officers says Breaux began running away and throwing objects out of his pockets. These objects, according to police, included a large caliber Smith & Wesson handgun and several plastic bags containing a large amount of "Crack" Cocaine valued to $2,000.00.

Police say Breaux is a convicted felon which prohibits him from carrying any kind of weapon.

Breaux is currently facing charges of possession with intent to distribute schedule II controlled dangerous substance, illegal carrying of a firearm in the presence of a controlled dangerous substance, possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and flight from an officer.

He now sits in the St. Landry Parish Jail and is currently being held with no bond.
