CARENCRO, La. (KPEL) -- A 32-year-old Carencro man has been arrested after he allegedly attacked his 63-year-old father with a samurai sword during an argument.

Capt. Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says deputies were called out Wednesday afternoon to the home on St. Esprit Road in Carencro after receiving reports of a domestic abuse at the home.

"Deputies arrived to find [the victim] with several chop-like injuries to the hands, arms, and head," Judice says.

Police believe the father was trying to counsel his son, but the discussion soon escalated into an argument. The son, Albert Price Prejean, left the room, came back with the samurai sword, then struck the father four times.

Judice says it appears Prejean was trying to strike his father's head.

As the father tried to defend himself, Judice says the two apparently fell, "and the son received a cut to his leg as well."

Prejean was taken to University Medical Center in Lafayette where he remains under guard until he's medically cleared to be transferred to the Lafayette Parish Correctional Center, Judice says. He will be charged with attempted second degree murder once released, Judice says.

The father was treated for non-life threatening injuries, Judice says.
