Update: 4:05 p.m., Thursday, May 3, 2012: We're getting new information about the accident Thursday morning at Frank's Casing Crew on Verot School Road.

Deputies with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office initially reported a crane operator didn't see a co-worker and accidentally crushed that co-worker as he was trying to move some pipes. Police are now saying the accident happened when 26-year-old Kevin Benjamin tried to move a large 30-inch pipe without help. Benjamin was pronounced dead at a local hospital.

12:06 p.m. Thursday, May 3, 2012: An early morning industrial accident claims the life of an area man.

Captain Kip Judice with the Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office says it happened around 7:30 a.m. Thursday at Frank's Casing Crew on Verot School Road.

Judice says a crane operator accidentally crushed Kevin Benjamin of Carencro while he was on the ground as they were moving some pipes. Benjamin was pronounced dead shortly after arriving at the hospital.

Deputies are investigating but no charges are expected.
