From the looks of things, high school basketball in Acadiana appears to be alive and thriving. Yesterday three Acadiana area teams loaded up the buses and traveled to Lake Charles for LHSAA state championship title games. All three local schools brought home the big trophy.

In Class 4 A the Carencro Golden Bears took on the Woodlawn Knights of Shreveport. The game wasn't decided until the final shot. When that final shot for the Knights failed to drop at the sound of the buzzer it was all over but the shouting. Oh, and there was plenty of shouting as Carencro celebrated the victory and raised the state title trophy high above the Burton Coliseum floor. Carencro 77, Woodlawn 75.

Lafayette Christian Academy is becoming known far and wide as a sports juggernaut. The Knights under coach Byron Starks have had their way with opponents throughout the year and the playoff run. The Knights were Division IV defending state champions and St. Marys really had no answer for the physical finesse the Knights bring to the court every night. The final score was LCA 52, St. Marys 35.

St.Thomas More was back in familiar territory as well in the LHSAA Division II championship game. Coach Danny Broussard's Cougars were looking to claim a state title for the third time in school history. That was exactly what they did. Playing a great brand of teamwork basketball the Cougars handled University Lab of Baton Rouge. STM 65, University Lab 55.
