HOUMA, La. (AP) — The driver was unhurt but the accident created quite a scene: a truck carrying 30,000 pounds of cement plunged into Bayou Terrebonne.

Police in Houma told The Courier that the accident happened late Tuesday morning.

Police Chief Todd Duplantis said the driver, 25-year-old Deree Kendrick of Gibson, took the turn too fast. The cement load shifted and Kendrick lost control.

The water did not completely submerge the truck. Kendrick escaped unharmed.

Workers used a towing rig and a vertical crane to lift the roughly 70,000-pound truck from the water.

Kendrick was ticketed for careless operation.
