BATON ROUGE, La. (AP) — Louisiana voters will sift through six constitutional changes proposed on the Nov. 8 ballot.

The highest-profile constitutional amendment would give Louisiana's four public college system management boards the ability to set tuition and fee rates without needing legislative approval.

Other amendments would change Louisiana's corporate tax structure; create a trust fund to help Louisiana cope with the fluctuations of oil prices and business tax collections; and enact qualifications for new registrars of voters.

Another proposal would exempt surviving spouses of military personnel killed in the line of duty from having to pay local property taxes on their homes. The last proposal would make it easier for lawmakers to tap into protected funds during financial troubles.

Nonpartisan amendment information is available from the Public Affairs Research Council of Louisiana at http://parlouisiana.org/.
