Charges Reduced Against LSU DB Jalen Mills In Battery Case

Nearly two months ago, LSU DB Jalen Mills was arrested for allegedly punching a woman in the mouth on May 4th. He was charged with second degree battery as the arresting charge, according to Nola.com. Now, that's been reduced to misdemeanor simple battery.

East Baton Rouge District Attorney Hillar Moore says, after reviewing evidence and reports, his office believes the misdemeanor charge is appropriate. Moore announced the charge through text, but did not release any other information, until speaking with The Daily Advertiser's Glenn Guilbeau later in the day.

Excerpt from The Daily Advertiser:

"We will file a misdemeanor bill sometime today charging the offense of simple battery. Technically my office has not reduced any charges," Moore said in an email Monday morning. "This is the charge that we believe is appropriate after reviewing the evidence and reports. It is what the law calls for under these circumstances and facts. The police made an arrest of Second Degree Battery. That was an arrest charge only and not a formal charge by our office. That arrest charge served to only set a bond. Had we formally charged him with second degree battery and later reduced it to a misdemeanor, then we would have reduced the charge."

The woman had a cut lip that required four sutures.
