CHICAGO (AP) — Operations at Chicago's two airports are returning to normal after an electrical problem at a regional radar facility forced a shutdown of all incoming and outgoing flights.

Tuesday's three-hour halt resulted in more than 1,120 cancellations at O'Hare International and Midway International airports.

By Wednesday morning, about 100 flights to and from O'Hare were scrapped and a few dozen more were delayed. That's according to the aviation tracking website FlightAware.com. There were only minor disruptions at Midway.

The ground stop was triggered by a bathroom exhaust fan in a ceiling that overheated and melted insulation on some wires. Smoke was pushed through the radar facility's ventilation system and into the control room.

The Chicago Terminal Radar Approach Control, or TRACON, facility is in suburban Elgin.
